Arnold Allen believes his versatility will help him through his fight with Max Holloway and ultimately lead to him becoming a UFC champion. ‘Almighty’, who is riding a 10-fight UFC win streak, is set for the toughest test of his career when he faces Holloway in Kansas City this Saturday. A win over the former featherweight champion will almost certainly lead to Allen getting a shot against the winner of the unification fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez which is set to take place at UFC 290 on July 8. The 29-year-old British fighter is approaching the biggest bout of his life the same as any other and believes adaptability will see him emerge victoriously despite his underdog status. Allen told talkSPORT: “The gameplan is always the same thing, just go out and win. Advertisement“That’s how I fight. I’m very adaptable to a situation and I’d say my best attribute is finding a way to win. “Obviously, I have a strategy and all that but when it comes to it some things don’t work out and the plan doesn’t go as you expect but my number one thing is finding a route to win in the fight and that’s the plan.” Allen believes beating a decorated former champion and extending his win streak will be enough to get him a title shot but he isn’t getting too excited just yet. “You never know how the UFC operate but I would assume so,” he replied when asked if a featherweight title shot will come after UFC Kansas City. “I guess it’s all performance-based. You can never look past your opponent, but you’ve got to try to look good against Max Holloway to get a title fight. “There weren’t too many people calling out Max Holloway and asking for that opportunity against him. A lot of people were trying to skirt around it and say they deserve a title shot.” AdvertisementWhile a win for Allen could lead to a title shot, it seems unlikely victory will be enough for Holloway to get another crack at UFC gold as he’s already lost to Volkanovski three times. However, ‘Blessed’ does have a recent win over Rodriguez. So, if the Mexican is able to cause an upset over the long-time champion this summer, Holloway would have a solid title shot claim if he can get the win this weekend. That’ll be easier said than done against Allen who has only ever lost one fight and that was all the way back in 2014 during his days on the regional MMA circuit. |
